COASTREK – Thanks for the supporting our 30KM TREK TO END AVOIDABLE BLINDNESS
I took part in the Melbourne Coastrek with a fun Bayside team of 4 girls, on Friday, 24 May 2019. The ultimate team trekking and fundraising challenge, proudly supporting The Fred Hollows Foundation. The Melbourne 30km trek takes place between Blairgowrie and Portsea, on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula.
We completed the beautiful scenic course in 6 hours and raised $3736 for the Fred Hollows Foundation which means over 149 people will get there eyesight back. The overall event raised $1.7 million.
The trek is spectacular and would highly recommend it to anyone who might be thinking about signing up for 2020.
A little about why we are raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundation who work to end avoidable blindness:
Be part of the solution for women around the globe.
- 55% of the world’s blind, are women (and 4 out of 5 of them don’t need to be!).
- More than 20 million women in the world are blind and a further 120 million women are visually impaired.
- Blindness in women can be especially devastating – impacting her psychological wellbeing, ability to control her own choices, exposure to social discrimination and vulnerability to violence.
- If she can’t see, then she can’t work or feed her children – blindness in women has far-reaching consequences including the family and wider community.
Your Coastrek fundraising supports Fred Hollows Foundation gender initiatives in 25 countries around the globe.
